Project Background
For a musical over the summer, we needed a vintage 1920s microphone as a prop. I decided to find an online file on Thingiverse with the components I needed and 3D print the model out. I used a Formlabs SLS 3D printer, which uses nylon powder and a laser to create in-depth complex prints.
After sending the file to print, I had to post process the piece, which involved unearthing it from the powder, brushing, sand blasting, and using compressed air to clean the piece of excess powder.
Then, using several spray paints, I finished the design with color and let it dry. Once it was fully dry, I connected the pieces using small springs to give it a completed 1920s look. The final design screwed perfectly onto a normal mic stand.
